The design respects the character of the existing dwelling while introducing contemporary elements. It comprises a single-storey rear extension with a pitched tiled roof, three rooflights integrated within the roof slope, large anthracite grey aluminium bi-fold doors opening onto the rear patio, a new kitchen window overlooking the garden, rendered external walls matched to the existing dwelling, anthracite grey fascia, soffit and rainwater goods, and integrated external lighting beneath the roof overhang. The pitched roof form helps the extension integrate naturally with the existing architecture while creating a more attractive and balanced rear elevation.

Building regulations
A full set of building-regulations drawings was prepared, covering the structure, insulation specifications, drainage layout and specification, windows and glazing, foundation details, floor, wall and roof build-ups, internal partitions and waterproofing, coordinated with a structural engineer.

Outcome
A bright and spacious family living environment with a much better relationship between the dwelling and its garden. The design balances traditional elements with contemporary detailing to create an attractive and functional addition that complements the host property.
