This proposal sets out the creation of a small single-storey side extension designed to enhance the functionality and overall layout of the home, replacing the existing side garage and shed storage.

The garage and shed were dated, poorly integrated and took up space that could work much harder. The new extension had to follow the existing building line and keep the street presence intact.
Our design response
Removing the outdated garage and shed frees up valuable space and allows the new extension to integrate cleanly with the main building, positioned to follow the existing building line and maintain the established street presence. The design introduces a rear living room with improved natural light and a direct connection to the garden, a dedicated home office positioned for privacy while staying connected to the main circulation route, and a streamlined storage area replacing the former shed. Materials are deliberately aligned with the existing house — matching render, complementary roof tiles and consistent window styles — and the roof form is kept low and sympathetic to the first-floor windows, preventing overshadowing and maintaining neighbour amenity.
Planning route
A full set of planning drawings and supporting reports was prepared for this proposal, including a shadow and daylight study and a design and access statement.
Building regulations
A full set of building-regulations drawings was prepared, covering the structure, insulation specifications, drainage layout and specification, windows and glazing, foundation details, floor, wall and roof build-ups, internal partitions and waterproofing, coordinated with a structural engineer.
